Considered a small shrub, Cape Heath is identified by its needle-like foliage and small bell-shaped flowers.  Harsh winters may damage this plant severely, so protection is needed in the colder zones.  Avoid wet, heavy soil.  Heather is considered poisonous when eaten. Pollen causes mild allergy.
